Since we live in Louisiana now, there's tons of Mardi Gras festivities. I didn't realize how many parades we have, or how big they are until we tried to go to one on Saturday.
The parade started at 4:30, but we tried to leave at 3:30, got a good parking spot in the family friendly zone, and then sat and waited...and waited...and waited.
At 7pm. Gavin had had enough. He was out of crackers, water, and patience. It had turned colder (in the picture Andrew was wearing shorts- but luckily we'd brought our coats just in case!) and was clouding up to rain.
So we left our friends we'd come with and went home. Without seeing a single float or catching a single bead necklace. Bummer.
Our friends cornered a cop later and asked how long they thought it would be- he said probably another hour (they asked at 8 pm- so they went to eat dinner and came back to see the end of it). The news at 10 said it was just ending at where we had been sitting, so I'm glad we didn't stick around.
But we learned a lesson- never try to watch the parade from where it ends...and always bring way more food than you think you need!
